What to Wear for Your Sunflower Mini Session at Dix Park in Raleigh
Sunflower season is almost here, and I couldn’t be more excited to offer mini sessions at Dix Park again. One of the most common questions I get when clients are preparing for their shoot is: “What should we wear?” Let’s break it down!
Warm Neutrals Work Best
Sunflowers are bold, bright, and golden. This is the kind of backdrop that doesn’t need to compete with your clothing. That’s where warm neutrals come in.
Think:
Creams
Tans
Soft rusts
Muted mustard
Olive greens
Warm grays
Dusty rose
These tones complement the natural yellow of the flowers while letting you remain the focus of the image.
The Vibe We’re Going For
My approach to sunflower minis is always rooted in connection. Whether you're chasing your toddler through the rows or enjoying a quiet, connected moment with your partner, I want your photos to feel timeless and real. Clothes that move, textures that layer, and colors that feel like golden hour will help us get there.

Tips to Keep in Mind
Avoid bright whites. They can look blown out in full sun. Creams and ivories are much more camera-friendly.
Skip logos and neon. We want your family’s faces to pop, not your t-shirt graphics.
Add texture. Lace, linen, knits, or embroidery all photograph beautifully. For families, put textured outfits on key individuals (not everyone).
When in Doubt, Ask Me!
If you’re unsure whether your outfit choices will work, send me a quick photo! I’m always happy to help you curate a look that will shine in your gallery. This is about creating something beautiful together.
Your family’s joy is already the centerpiece. Let’s choose outfits that let that joy shine.
